Our American Black Lab Agnes is 5 years old this October! Wow…where has the time gone!? I don’t often talk about our therapy pets, but I would like to take some time to share some of Agnes history!
Agnes was found by some kids one Jan. night in Northern North Dakota where I was a missionary. The puppy was left at the church and the seminarians took care of her the first night. She couldn’t even lap water…they gave her water by dipping their fingers in water then into her mouth. Next day she came to the convent, she couldn’t yet get up. (She was called puppy at this time) With a clean bill of health, just very malnourished and near frozen, we worked on getting her healthy so she could find a family!
I named the puppy Agnes for she was dropped on the church steps Jan. 21…St. Agnes feast day! Agnes became my dog as we worked to get her healthy. (I had time to work with her as I was recovering from surgery) I was encouraged to take her with me when I left to start a new ministry to children in need!
Agnes has been great with the children who have lived with us and are living with us! All the children love her and she is protective of them! Many times when a child comes to our home broken, Agnes is the first one they try to relate to and make friends with.
Thank you Agnes for your 5 years of loyalty, love and friendship!
