Happy Catholic Schools week!  What a legacy of Education the Catholic Church has!  We have had some key Saints in this month of January, who have been very instrumental in getting Catholic Education going in more then one continent, such as St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Francis de Sales, St. Angela Merici and St. John Bosco; and those are just the one’s for January!

I am blessed to have attended Little Flower, St. Michael’s and Pensacola Catholic High and to have taught at St. Anthony’s in Robstown, Our Lady’s Montessori in Kansas City and St. Ann’s in Belcourt!

I am grateful to those who provide Catholic education to those who can afford it and those who provide Catholic Education to those who cannot afford it, for it is an education for everyone rich and poor. Also for those who provide Catholic Home school curriculum and Catholic On Line Schools!

Catholic Schools and Catholic Home schools educate the whole child; spirit, mind and body, realizing that God doesn’t separate the intellect from the rest of the created person.  We also know that learning should lead us closer to God as we learn about the world He created for us!  Learning should excited not just our mind but also our spirit!  Who could come up with the infinite number, the perfect number, but God.  The study of Science, how the body is put together and works, biology, chemistry, etc.  Reading and being able to comprehend what is read, how language and sentences go together so we can communicate.  Social Studies and History, looking at the golden thread that God weaves through the history of man and how we relate to one another.  And lets not forget music, art and physical education to round it all out!

The Gospel Reading for today, I love the Beatitudes!

GospelMT 5:1-12A

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

The Gospel of the Lord!  Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ!
