Today is a memorial that is not well known…The Most Holy Name of Mary! It is nicely sandwiched between Sept. 8 The Nativity of Mary and Sept. 15 Our Lady of Sorrows! We celebrate the the Nativity or birth of Mary and as was the custom she was named several days later.
Being the Mother of Jesus who better to call upon by name when we are struggling and need support to help us stay with Jesus! Many saints were very devoted and often called upon Mary! Many name their children “Mary” and many Religious take “Mary” as part of their name.
Our Lady of Sorrows is a title of Mary, as she stood at the foot of the cross. Who better to call upon in our sorrows but Mary!
