Today is the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, Patron Saint of workers, which is all of us!
We all work, even the smallest of us works to learn to hold our head up, crawl, walk, eat table food, etc. We spend many years working through play and school. Then as adults we work out in the world for many years. It is not just us people that work, God also works as we see in Scripture: “And on the seventh day God finished the work He had done..” Gen. 2:2, Jesus answered them ” My Father is working still and I am working.” John 5: 17
Examples of us working from before sin entered the world; The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. Gen. 2:15.
Scripture speaks of Joseph being a carpenter and of Jesus learning the carpenter trade from him, in Matt. 13:55, Luke 4:22, John 1:5 and 6:42 to mention a few.
As we work in our profession and or vocation we can use it to build mankind into the Kingdom of God: “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being. Do it for the Lord rather than for men, since you know full well you will receive an inheritance from him as your reward. Be slaves of Christ the Lord. Col. 3:23-24
