Just a few thoughts on time saving devices.  These reflections came to me as our home for children is close to full, and I have office, household and children to care for.  At times my thoughts have gone to my Grandma Headley.  My mom was raised on a large farm.  Due to the distance from town, my mom’s home didn’t have indoor plumbing or electricity until she was almost 10 years old.  My Grandma by choice kept her wood burning cook stove to cook on even in 1958, the rest of the kitchen and bathroom was modern for that time.

Many times I have asked my mom how her mom did it, cooking from scratch, canning vegetables, fruit and meat, pasteurizing milk.  My mom responds that she wonders that herself sometimes.  I don’t have a lot of kitchen time saving devices but I do have several and they do help.

Now with all these time saving devices we should have more time for people who are important to us, right!?  Yet, we have less time for people then when my mom was growing up!  Several years ago, even when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s we had time to know our neighbors, have get togethers, spend time with family, just play with the neighbor kids outside.   And yes, I took lessons, such as dance, piano/organ and  Children’s choir.

Today with all these time saving devices we seem to have less time for people.  We are too busy for what is important.

As it says in Ecc. 3:1  There is an appointed time for everything,

and a time for every affair under the heavens.
